DepEd's stand on the Requests of the LGUs to have Schools as Quarantine or Isolation Areas

The Secretary of the Department of Education delegates the responsibility to approve or deny the requests by LGUs to use DepEd schools for quarantine or isolation areas to the Regional Directors within their respective jurisdiction. Their decision will be based on evaluation of the request  by the Schools Division Superintendent in consultation with the school heads and with the Department of Health. ( see attached memo)

According to the Memorandum, when the request of the LGU is granted by the Regional Director based on the recommendation of the concerned Schools Division Superintendent the school heads must coordinate with the LGU considering the necessary preparations mentioned in the memo before the actual use of the facility for the intended purpose.

Based on the memorandum, it is also the duty of the Regional Director to devise a system for monitoring the use of schools within their jurisdiction as quarantine or isolation areas. DRRM and School Health and Nutrition Personnel are expected to provide support in monitoring the use of school facilities.
